Proto Privacy

Your privacy is extremely important to us. We know giving any app access to your photos is a big deal!

Our promise to you:

• The Proto app accesses photos you choose so Proto can read them. We will not use your photos for any other purpose and your photos are never accessible to Proto team, except where you choose to submit a food photo for meal analysis as described below.
• Food photos or descriptions are sent only when you choose to submit them for meal analysis, as described below.
• We will not share your photos with anyone except trusted third-party AI providers used to return a nutrition estimate for a meal you submit.
• We will not access your passwords, credit cards or other sensitive information.

What we do collect:

• Anonymous usage statistics (how many people are using the app etc) to make the app better.
• Anonymous usage analytics such as screen views and button taps, to improve your user experience.
• Anonymous crash reports to make the app more stable.

Food photos and descriptions

When you log a meal, you can provide a photo of your food or a short text or voice description. To estimate the meal's nutrition (protein, calories and other macros), we process that photo or description with an AI service and return the result to you. We do not store the photo or description after it has been processed.

Only the photo or description you submit for a given meal is sent. We do not send your name, contact details, or other personal information along with it. You are asked to agree before anything is sent for the first time, and you can always type nutrition values in manually instead.

Third-party AI services

Meal analysis is processed on your device where possible, or sent to trusted third-party AI providers, which may include Apple, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. These providers process your submission only to return a nutrition estimate, and do not store it after processing.

We use these providers under their business/API terms, which state that your submissions are not used to train their AI models, and we require them to provide protection for your data equal to that described in this policy. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
